Here at Kathryn Allen Couture, we feel very fortunate to meet so many incredible style stars through the power of Instagram. Being able to connect with our fellow fashion lovers--no matter where in the world they call home--is a dream come true, and it has resulted in countless friendships and lifelong relationships for us.
Not long ago, we stumbled upon Amanda Brooke's Instagram page, and we were instantly hooked! She is the queen of bohemian-chic and glamorous style, and she's not afraid to play with fun textures and patterns. Amanda is the author of the ever-inspiring blog, From Apple to Orange (it's also her Instagram name!), and she is always posting her stunning outfits on Instagram.
Amanda was kind enough to answer a few questions that we had about her life as a trendsetting blogger and influencer, and we're so excited to share her inspirational quotes with you!
Q&A with Amanda Brook--From Apple to Orange
We absolutely adore your style! Where do you source inspiration for your looks?
"I take inspiration from everything around me… I have never been one to blindly follow trends, but instead fashion happens for me organically. I love to go thrifting and I keep clothing for years and repurpose items all the time. I literally can and do shop everywhere, from high-end department stores to little hole in the wall joints that sell earrings for $5. I also like to be creative and can take a scarf I find in a Nicaraguan flea market and turn it into a skirt. I also don’t buy anything unless I absolutely love it, sometimes I may be over an item in my hand by the time I get to the register."
Your blog, From Apple To Orange, is one of our favorite sources for outfit inspiration. What inspired you to start your blog? And how did you come up with such a fun blog name?
"The name fromappletoorange was inspired by my transition from the Big Apple (NYC) to Miami (home of those Florida oranges). The first decade of my career was in the fashion industry but I knew when I landed in Miami I’d likely have to find a new area to specialize in. I didn’t want to give up my love for the world of fashion or my connection to the industry and had a light bulb moment. I had worked with bloggers before, and I thought, 'I could do this.'"
What are some of your favorite aspects of being a fashion blogger?
"I love to get feedback from my followers. It used to be that I would put together a fabulous outfit but maybe only see my family or a group of friends — now 57,000 people can tell me what they think! Also, blogging has changed how I see the world around me, it’s made me more present. I am always looking for beautiful backgrounds and scenes to take photos of."
Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion bloggers?
"Just do it! I had no idea that I’d be where I am just over a year later, but you never know. Creating a cool Instagram account is fun and it’s free, so why not give it a chance? As a blogger you should find your own voice or style that is uniquely yours. Don’t try to imitate other bloggers. I’m sure you’ve noticed but being eclectic is my thing. Also, be selective about what you post—if you are feeling just “eh” about a photo, your followers will probably feel the same way."
Are there any trends or designers you are loving right now?
"I am loving the glamour sunglass trend. I can’t get enough of the embellishments, mirroring and adornments that are popping up on sunnies (of course it helps living in Miami, where sunglasses are a must). And, I’m really into micro-patterned dresses in all lengths and shapes for the summer. Prints can be tricky and very personal but there are such strong ones out there right now with such cool cuts and movement. Fashion is fun so don’t be afraid to step out of your box to try something unusual.
Designer wise, I was recently in Cannes and found this store Pep’s that I can’t stop dreaming about. I bought 3 dresses and wish I had purchased more. I also really love what Zimmerman and Caroline Constas are doing right now. Altuzurra, Celine and Gucci are killing it in the shoe department and Katherine Cordero has some fantastic statement jewelry pieces. But that’s how I feel today, ask me tomorrow and who knows?"
